When we sat down for Thanksgiving dinner, I was convinced that I was going to be all right.
I had been honest with myself about the grief and utter sadness that I felt as I anticipated the first Thanksgiving since my dad’s death.
There was a common thread that united us all–we all missed him.
We changed the location of our annual holiday dinner and I naively believed that his absence would not be felt as strongly since we were not joining hands in our childhood home, but in the home of my younger sister.
However, there was an eerie emptiness that permeated the house.
As I looked around I thought the stuff in our family home would be reminders of the 50 years of Thanksgiving that I had spent with my family, but it wasn’t the stuff that were the reminders..it was what he left within us.
His life will never be forgotten because he left us with something that is priceless–his legacy.
This simple reflection expresses your dad’s deep significance beautifully. May God grant you peace as you mourn his loss.
Thank you so much! Your prayer for peace is greatly appreciated.
Beautiful writing. I am sorry for your loss. I lost my mother two years ago, and I am so thankful for the legacy she left her family too.
Loved “His life will never be forgotten because he left us with something that is priceless–his legacy.” That is a beautiful tribute to your dad. Sending hugs and praying for the Lord’s peace and comfort,
